SEATTLE (AP) — The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Jarred Kelenic, pitcher Marco Gonzales and infielder Evan White from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night for right-handed pitchers Cole Phillips and Jackson Kowar. The move added a veteran lefty to the Braves pitching staff, along with Kelenic, who at one time was one of baseball's top young prospect. In the process, Seattle cleared a chunk of salary off its payroll, giving up on Kelenic in order for the Braves to take the contracts of Gonzales and White. Gonzales is owed $12 million for the 2024 season, while White has $17 million in guaranteed money remaining on his contract. A civil complaint alleges that federal bankruptcy judge David Jones, who mediated the Tehum bankruptcy, is in a romantic relationship with Elizabeth Freeman, who represented YesCare in the bankruptcy. Van Deelen's case was ultimately "removed" to Jones' bankruptcy court, according to Van Deelen's complaint. The document alleges that, while working the McDermott case, Freeman was Jones' "live-in girlfriend" in a home worth more than a million dollars. Some railroad unions want more scrutiny of the safety of remote control operations major railroads have used for years in and around railyards without significant problems. Remote control train operators might have only a month or two of training before taking the controls, although the length of training varies by railroad. Safety statistics on railroad crashes are unclear because Federal Railroad Administration reports don't break out those involving remote control trains from incidents involving trains operated by engineers and conductors. Grissom said his union has had three members die in incidents involving remote control trains since 2015. CNN —CSX Transportation announced Tuesday that it had reached a deal with two railroad unions regarding paid sick leave. It also allows members to use up to three personal leave days for sick leave, the two unions said. Eight unions voted to accept the tentative agreement negotiated by the Biden administration with no paid sick leave, while four voted it down. The unions asked for ten paid sick days initially — whittling down their ask to four. The three other major freight railroads — Union Pacific, BNSF and Norfolk Southern — do not currently have paid sick leave in place.

DENVER — The family of a woman who died four years ago shortly after a paramedic injected her with the powerful sedative ketamine have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the health care worker and the ambulance company. LaCour's family alleges in the lawsuit that Jason Poulson, a paramedic for American Medical Response Ambulance Service, administered 400 milligrams of ketamine to LaCour despite objections from a firefighter who was also an emergency medical technician. Shortly afterward, LaCour stopped breathing, according to the lawsuit filed on behalf of her and her husband's five preteen children. LaCour died from acute alcohol and ketamine intoxication, the El Paso County Coroner's Office said in its report. Poulson and American Medical Response Ambulance Service Inc. are named as defendants in the wrongful death lawsuit.
